Kathie Snow is a mother, public speaker, trainer, and author of Disability is Natural:
Revolutionary Common Sense for Raising Successful Children with Disabilities
and other books. She hosts the website Disability is Natural where the emphasis
is on people with disabilities as real people who can and should live real
lives, included in every aspect of their communities, living the lives of their
dreams!
Kathie
was troubled by the descriptions used about his son and others with
developmental disabilities when she decided to start the movement of People
First Language (PFL). PFL represents more respectful, accurate ways of
communicating. PwD’s are not diagnoses or disabilities; they are people, first.
Read her enthralling article here which ensures inclusion, freedom and respect
for all. Words matter! For too long, hurtful words have been used about PwD’s.
It’s time to remove the attitudinal barrier. Here’s the pledge to put the
person first and not the disability.
